Cultivating the Art of Figure Skating
The Next Ice Age Academy is a company designed to nurture and develop the art of figure skating, furthering the great artistic quality and respect that The Next Ice Age has been providing for 30 years.
Figure Skating has long been a sport with a deep artistic quality, and the rules of the sport are once again moving to reward that fundamental identity. In the coming seasons, program component scores will be more heavily rewarded, and performance will be a major factor in progressing through the US Figure Skating test structure. The artistic qualities that NIAA classes develop will aid students in acquiring better scores, passing USFS tests, and improve overall performance in figure skating. The skills gained through NIAA can then also be utilized within the professional show world, providing a career path for many athletes and performers, such as The Next Ice Age professional company.
We currently partner with Amir Haan of Washington Skating Academy in our classes provided at Piney Orchard and Annapolis, and these classes focus on the following:
- Edge Quality and Power
- Artistry and innovative movements
- Moves in the field
- Jump and spin techniques
- Education on US Figure Skating rules
Here is some general information for attendees:
